Neora Valley is one of the most ecologically rich regions in the entire Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspot. The park covers 88 sq km and is characterised by dense subtropical and temperate forests, alpine meadows, and some of the highest rainfall zones in West Bengal.
Tiffin Dara is perhaps the most iconic viewpoint in the Lava–Rishop region. Perched at over 7,700 feet, it offers a jaw-dropping 360° panorama of the Kanchenjunga range, the Sleeping Buddha, Darjeeling hills, and the distant Bengal plains on clear days.
The Lava Kagyu Thupden Chholing Monastery (also known as Lava Monastery or New Monastery) is a significant Tibetan Buddhist gompa. The monastery is colourfully decorated and offers a peaceful, meditative atmosphere surrounded by mountain forests.

Getting Here
Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), ~80 km away. From NJP / Siliguri, take a shared or private cab to Rishop via Lava (~3.5 hrs).
Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is ~90 km away. Taxis and pre-booked cabs are available at the airport directly to Rishop (~4 hrs).
From Siliguri take NH10 to Kalimpong, then take the Lava route to Rishop. Mountain roads — best in personal vehicle or 4x4.

Crystal-clear skies, ideal for mountain views. Kanchenjunga shines brilliantly. Cool, pleasant weather.
Cold but magical. Occasional snowfall possible. Rhododendrons begin blooming in late Feb–Mar.
