We recommend booking a private cab or shared jeep from NJP directly to Rishop via Lava. Please call us and we can help arrange transport.

Yes, you can drive to Rishop. From Siliguri, take NH10 towards Kalimpong, then follow the route to Lava, and onward to Rishop. The mountain roads are generally good, though some stretches are narrow. A vehicle with decent ground clearance (SUV or 4-wheel drive) is recommended, especially during monsoon season. Parking is available at the homestay premises.

We recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks in advance for peak seasons (October–December and March–May). During Puja holidays and long weekends, rooms fill up very quickly. For off-season visits (January–February, June–September), advance booking of 1 week is usually sufficient, but earlier is always better.

There is no strict minimum stay, but we recommend at least 2 nights to truly experience Rishop and the surrounding area. A 3-night stay is ideal for covering Tiffin Dara sunrise, Neora Valley, Lava Monastery, and a peaceful campfire evening. Single-night stays are accepted subject to availability.

Services & Amenities

Campfire is available upon request and is typically set up after dinner in the evening. It is subject to weather conditions (no campfire during rain) and dry wood availability. We recommend requesting it at least a few hours in advance. The campfire typically runs from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM unless extended by arrangement. An extra charge may apply.

Yes! All our rooms are equipped with electric geysers that provide hot water 24 hours a day. This is especially important during cold winter and post-monsoon months when temperatures can drop significantly. You do not need to schedule hot water — it is available on demand at any time.

Yes, we have a covered or semi-covered parking area at the premises. We can typically accommodate 3-4 vehicles. For groups with multiple vehicles, please inform us in advance so we can arrange additional parking nearby. Parking is complimentary for our guests.

We have a power backup system at the homestay. Essential lights, charging points, and critical appliances are backed up during power cuts, which can occasionally occur in mountain regions. We keep candles and torch lights readily available for all guests as well.

Absolutely! We can help arrange guided bird-watching walks, nature treks, Neora Valley day trips, and sightseeing excursions to Tiffin Dara, Lava Monastery, Loleygaon, and more. Please inform us about your interests at the time of booking so we can plan your itinerary. Some activities involve additional charges paid to guides.

Weather & Best Season

October through December is the best time to visit Rishop for crystal-clear mountain views and pleasant weather. March through May offers beautiful rhododendron bloom and great birding conditions. Winter months (January–February) can be very cold but magical, with occasional snowfall. The monsoon (June–September) brings heavy rain but lush greenery and dramatic waterfalls.

Rishop sits at ~7,200 feet above sea level. In winter (December–February), temperatures can drop to 0°C to 4°C at night and may reach 8°C–12°C during the day. We provide thick blankets and all rooms have geysers for warm showers. We recommend bringing warm woollen clothing, woollen socks, gloves, and a heavy jacket for winter visits.

Yes! Rishop occasionally receives snowfall, typically between late December and February. While it's not guaranteed every year, light snowfall does occur in some years making Rishop an even more magical experience. During heavy snowfall, road access can be limited so it's important to stay connected with us and have flexible travel plans in winter.

The monsoon (June–September) transforms Rishop into a dramatically green paradise with cascading waterfalls everywhere. However, mountain views are often obscured by clouds and road conditions can be challenging. We recommend it only for nature lovers and adventurous travellers who don't mind rain. October onwards is ideal for clear mountain panoramas.
